Re: Considering a baitcaster finally.
I've tried and thought I've gotten the reel set by putting a lure on setting the brake where it nearly stops when it hits the ground then do it in the water. Then I cast and it's ok for one or 2 casts then the nightmare starts. Perhaps I'm just destined to use a spinning reel for my lifetime lol whi...

Re: Considering a baitcaster finally.
Thanks all the reason I considered the Zillion was cause it's on sale on TW. I also like I said wasn't sure if backlash was all my doing or just because of the reel slightly. As for the ratio I only red that it was decent for beginners then again it's only what someone else wrote about the gear rati...

Re: original Fuego 3000 spinning
I have an original red 3000 fuego and honestly it works perfectly fine still with no hicupps... I really wish I could find a 2500 that's in a really good condition still for a decent price. Out of all my reels it's the best I have and toughest. I rank it right up there with my Sustain,Stella,Stee in...

Considering a baitcaster finally.
So I've been looking around and keep finding myself back on TW page looking at the Daiwa JDM Zillion 1516L they have. And I've scoured the internet and read some articles about the gear rations. Mostly i'll be using this reel for jigheads and jerkbaits and the occasional blade baits (Vertical jiggin...

New 2016 Daiwa
So amidst the usual browsing for more new stuff that I don't really need... I came across pictures of a 2016 Daiwa Certate and it was actually a really pleasant surprise. I'm far from in the market for a new reel but there's just a place the Certate has in my heart ever since I got my 2500R Cu...

Re: Hair jigs
No, I've fished the creek near the dam it's really good small mouth waters, I usually try to get up to the Allegheny for smallies, but haven't caught any real big ones lately, I've gotten bigger ones from Crooked Creek spillway. Hoping to hit the Allegheny this weekend and try some of these new bait...

Re: Hair jigs
I usually do best with them vertically, still trying to get into using them in creeks or the rivers near by, vertically they work best for me at the lock and dams on the Allegheny and at Crooked Creek. But, I also mostly catch walleye with them. I've had success with them in all ranges of water temp...

Re: your best landing % rod
My best landing rod that isn't for live bait is my Loomis 783-2 with my Certate 2500R and 10# triline (Upgrading to 10 or 12# Invisx Fluorocarbon soon) I throw stick baits mostly. I think I've lost 4 maybe 5 fish in the past 7 years. Although my Steez 7'L with a Steez 2508 and 8# tatsu has a 100% la...

Re: What fluoro to use
About the same stretch as other Seaguar products (That's who makes it.) It's not Tatsu that's for sure haha... But I have 0 issues with it for the price and applications I use it for which is about everything.

Re: You get what you pay for usually, but .......
Triline XT or Big Game for Mono and Cabelas X50 Fluorocarbon both are good for lower priced. X50 is not nearly the cheapest Flourocarbon but it still performs with the best, well at-least the mid range... I don't know if it holds up to Tatsu, Sugoi, Sunline or Toray. Otherwise I would possibly try Y...

Re: What fluoro to use
I love my X50, I've used the 8lb all of last season and when Cabelas had the 750yrd for $25 I jumped and grabbed it. It's stretch is about the same as other fluoros and the durability is great, i've used it anywhere from snaggy bottom rivers for Walleye, I've gotten a few Musky with it and quite a f...

Re: Beginner Jerkbait
Rapala X Rap I agree. They are inexpensive but are fish catchers. I like gold or silver with a black back. They are not that difficult to learn. Jerk, jerk, pause. Jerk, jerk, pause. The colder the water, the longer I wait in between the cadence. I have to agree with this also, the RC STX and Rogue...
