Re: Red hooks?

I don't understand. Fish supposedly can see Red hooks and they eat baits more readily because the look wounded. Fish supposedly CAN'T see red fishing line.... hahahaha I smell a fib somewhere. Read the article in the link above. Explains the science behind it. Up to you if you agree with the it or ...

Re: NANOFIL HATERS

So that's the reason for the alternating half hitches. Never could figure why since I know it doesn't affect knot strength. Yeah, they're just locking wraps that keep the part that holds the knot from unraveling, so no real effect on strength - BUT where I find they make a difference is when reelin...

Re: NANOFIL HATERS

I guess I kind of 'forgot' that I tie the FG knot in a manner that I have yet to see done in a video. 2 hands and slight tension to the leader material (the weight of a leader skein is enough really). No teeth no Fuss. It involves mounting the braid to your index finger and pinky finger of one hand ...

Re: NANOFIL HATERS

You can't even knot 10lbs Nanofil to 12 lb mono unless you rough up the nanofil a bit. 6lbs Nanofil to 12 lbs mono is a challenge and forget about 10lbs fluro or under as leader. I use 10 lb fluoro tied to 10 lb nanofil pretty regularly. What kind of issues do you have with these sizes? I use about...

Re: shimano reels more powerful than daiwa?

Solid thread guys... =D> Lots of great points and counter points. On the topic of HEG and Digigear points... Obviously these pinion reinforcements systems are designed to benefit helical cut lateral torque gear slippage issues and help provide the smooth as butter feel. Straight cut gears are loud a...

Re: How much does the Strike King Pro Series 3 crankbait wei

Love the discussion and the pictures - I fish a lot of Strike King baits - great value. However, your pictures do not corroborate your weights. In the pictures the baits show '0.3 oz' and '0.4 oz'. This is NOT '0.30' or '0.40' as you report. The last digit on a digital scale is always a rounded numb...

Re: What inshore reel?

I feel like any low pro baitcaster over 150 bucks will do the job if you understand that you need to rinse the reel off after use, you don't plan on storing it in a dock house or on a boat, you don't submerge the reel while fishing or while cleaning, and you do a full tear down ONCE a year. If a ree...

Re: shimano reels more powerful than daiwa?

Power is tied to gear ratio with handle length and has nothing to do with brand. And gear size. x2 on the gear size... Most bc reels have evolved the dropped gear box to increase or maintain larger overall gear sizes. Shimano of course has an acronym for this.. HEG (high efficiency gearing) and the...

Re: Daiwa/BPS breakup

I think Daiwa has some huge issues with controlling their products and keeping them from 'falling off the truck.' Most of the stuff that Basspro carries/carried in Daiwa can commonly be found online for somewhere around 40% off MSRP which is crazy. Most of the other name brands out there can be fou...

Re: Uncle Josh Pork Rinds Discontinued

I was under the impression they were just trying to get away from wasteful/expensive/inefficient packaging when they launched their 'meat' series.

These come in bags similar in construction to berkley gulp baits instead of glass or plastic jars that spill.

Re: New Curado 70

All this noise is simple in my mind: SVS is higher performance and higher maintenance than the older VBS. I really don't understand all the fuss though because it takes less than 45 seconds to do the 'maintenance' suggested in the owner's manual of these reels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re: Anyone LRF/Ajing on the SE coast

I live on the coast of Georgia. I had to google LRF(Light Rock Fishing) - had never heard of it. I would say that the geology of the SE USA doesn't support this kind of fishing from shore as we have tidal marshes - not rocks. If the concept here of LRF is merely ultralight tackle I would say that it...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Z_pkMVKxZ4 (BASSfest Kentucky Lake) The above video has a couple of good examples of spinning reel use. Take a look at 16:25 for a demo on how not to use a spinning reel. Reeling against drag induces major line twist. [-X Take a look at 29:00 for a demo on how it sh...
